Sizing a café board
Read from the back of the line
Your line forms 10 to 20 feet from the menu. At 1″, a drink name reads to about 30 feet, so people can decide before they reach the register. Size the board to how many drinks you list, not to the wall.

What cafés ask
What size menu board does a coffee shop need?
Over an espresso bar, most cafés go 36″ to 48″ wide. A 36″ × 24″ board holds 12 drinks and add-ons at 1″, readable from about 30 feet, which covers a line that runs back to the door. We build any size to the inch.
Do I need extra letters for prices?
Often, because numbers run out before letters do. A 1″ set has four of most digits and two dollar signs, so a menu with a dozen prices can need a second 1″ set. Every price on our café designs already counts the extra sets its menu uses.
Should prices show cents?
Whole dollars read fastest from the line and use fewer pieces. If you price in halves, set the cents small beside the dollar, or round to the nearest dollar on the board.
One big board or two smaller ones?
Many cafés run the main menu over the bar and a small board by the register for what is new this season. The small board changes often; the big one stays put.
